What to get a 1-year-old

A one-year-old is just as happy with the wrapping paper, but the parents will remember this day for good. Here are gifts the little one will play with every day for months, while they learn to walk and test everything with their hands and mouth.

Gift ideas for a 1-year-old

All of them suit a one-year-old — we checked the age on the box.

To walk and move

Right now they pull up on the furniture and take their first steps. Anything they can push, roll or pull along helps.

For small hands and ears

One-year-olds bang, stack and knock things down again. That's how they find out how the world works.

What to know about gifts at one

Three things that set this age apart.

  • From crawling to first steps

Some walk before one, some a few months later, and both are normal. A good gift works either way: something to push, roll or pull along.

  • Everything goes in the mouth

So check the age on the box. 3+ means there may be small parts inside, which is not for a one-year-old. Avoid small magnets, flat coin batteries and long cords.

  • Baby toys are already boring

The rattles they loved six months ago no longer interest them, and clothes are outgrown in three months. Things that grow with walking — a wagon, a ride-on — last longer.

How Wishler helps here

A one-year-old can't make a list, so the parent does.

  1. The parent keeps the child's list

You know what they already have and what's missing. Add wishes by hand or paste a shop link, and Wishler fills in the photo and price (it may be approximate). Put clothing size and colour right on the wish.

  2. One link in the family chat

A child's list has its own link, and the page shows only the day and month of the birthday, never the year. Grandparents and godparents open it in any browser and install nothing.

  3. Guests reserve or chip in

A guest reserves a gift, so the same one doesn't arrive twice; you never see who reserved it. For the ride-on, several relatives chip in: everyone sees what's collected and what's left, and the money goes straight to you — Wishler holds none of it.

Questions people ask

What to get a 1-year-old girl or boy?

At this age toys don't split into girls' and boys': both are drawn to push-along wagons, blocks and noisy instruments. Pick by what the child is doing right now — walking, stacking or banging everything in sight.

How much should I spend on a first birthday gift?

There is no rule. A percussion set or bath toys for 30–50 ₾ is as good a gift as something big. A ride-on or another pricey item is better chipped in on by several relatives together.

What not to give a 1-year-old?

Anything marked 3+, small parts, small magnets, and coin batteries in a compartment without a screw. And ask the parents before buying a very loud toy — they're the ones who'll hear it all day.

The first year only happens once

Two minutes for your child's list, one link in the family chat — and every gift gets used.
