What to get a 2-year-old

A two-year-old's favourite words are "I'll do it myself", and that's a good thing. The best gift now is one they can ride, build and work without a grown-up's help.

Gift ideas for a 2-year-old

Four for big movement, four for quieter play at home.

To run, swing and roll

A two-year-old is almost never still, and all that energy has to go somewhere.

To copy grown-ups and create

Right now they repeat everything you do: cook dinner, treat a patient, fix the car.

What makes two special

Three things worth knowing before you buy.

  • "Myself"

Two-year-olds love finishing a job on their own. Pick something they can use without a grown-up: big pieces, simple buttons, a thing they can lift themselves.

  • The copying age

Whatever they see at home becomes a game: the kitchen, the doctor, fixing the car. That's why pretend-play toys work so well now — to a child it's real work.

  • Not 3+ yet

They seem big, but some things still go in the mouth. A 3+ label means small parts, which is too early at two. And add a helmet to the balance bike: it can go on the list as a wish of its own.

How Wishler helps here

The parent fills the list; family and friends pick from it.

  1. Make the list together

A two-year-old will already point at what they like, and you add it. Paste a shop link and Wishler fills in the photo and price (it may be approximate); put colour and size right on the wish.

  2. One link for everyone

A child's list has its own link — for the nursery group chat, the family or friends. The page shows only the day and month of the birthday, never the year, and guests open it in any browser.

  3. Reserve or chip in

What's reserved isn't bought twice, so two identical trains won't turn up. For the balance bike, several guests chip in: everyone sees what's collected and what's left, and the money goes straight to you — Wishler holds none of it.

Questions people ask

What to get a 2-year-old girl?

The same as a boy: a balance bike, big bricks, a doctor's kit or a water drawing mat. At two, what grabs them is anything that moves, makes a sound or looks like grown-up work — the parent can put the colour on the list.

Balance bike or tricycle for a 2-year-old?

A balance bike teaches balance, and many children later move to a pedal bike without training wheels. Pedalling a tricycle is often still hard at two. Size goes by height — check the height range on the box.

What to get a 2-year-old who has everything?

Ask the parents: there may be plenty of toys but nothing for moving — a balance bike, a swing or a helmet. Or ask for the child's list link and pick something nobody has reserved yet.

Give them something they'll use all by themselves

Two minutes for your child's list, one link in the family chat — and no more identical trains.
